Camelthorn Farmstead
On the banks of the Boteti, where the Makgadikgadi begins
Camelthorn Farmstead sits six kilometres off the tar road on the Boteti River, right on the western boundary fence of Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and seven kilometres from the Khumaga entrance gate. Built from scratch by people who genuinely care about the land around them, it earns its reputation without any particular effort, through spotless facilities, excellent food on request and an extraordinary commitment to pumping water into the Boteti at their own expense to keep wildlife coming through even in the driest of years.
The result is a waterhole and river frontage that draws elephant, zebra, wildebeest, hippo, crocodile and a remarkable diversity of birds in concentrations that guests at considerably more expensive lodges along the Boteti can only look at from a distance. It's owner-run, unpretentious, beautifully positioned and genuinely good value for a stay on the edge of one of Botswana's most compelling wildlife landscapes.
Accommodation
Camelthorn offers en-suite Sahara Deluxe tents on a large, immaculate lawned area beneath magnificent camelthorn trees, each with a private bathroom, bath and outdoor shower and a separate kitchen for self-catering guests. Meals are available on request and are prepared with the warmth and generosity of a home kitchen.
For self-drivers and overlanders, private campsites each have their own ablution block with hot water, braai facilities and firewood supplied. WiFi is available at the pool area. It's genuinely good value for a stay on the Boteti River in one of the finest positions on the western boundary of Makgadikgadi Pans National Park.
