Where does the Okavango Delta get its water?
Every year, life pulses into the Delta from seasonal rains 1,000 km away in Angola’s highlands. Fed by the Cubango & Cuito rivers, the waters traverse Namibia before bursting into our sacred Kalahari basin around late May–June, peaking between July–August—precisely when the rest of Botswana is bone dry
This is prime time for mokoro cruises, boat safaris & canyon-like channels opening to glampers. In 2025, the inflows are higher than average, some early-season canals filled by May, marking this as one of the best years in recent memory .These waters bring life , elephants swimming through channels, lions stalking floodplains, birds migrating from every corner of the globe. Botswana didn’t become the safari capital of the world by chance. It chose a different path and that is one that is rooted in conservation-first travel and deep respect for its ecosystems.
In the 1960s and ‘70s, Botswana made a bold decision of low-impact, high-value tourism over mass tourism. Instead of crowding landscapes with lodges, the country preserved vast stretches of wilderness ,and invited only a few travelers at a time to experience it.
That means:
- Private concessions, not public parks.
- Guides who are born of the land, not flown in.
- Safari experiences shaped by the rhythms of wildlife, not traffic.

This was no coincidence. Vumbura Plains is one of those rare places where every game drive feels like opening a well-worn book of secrets. The intimacy of the camp alone , the mosaic of habitats, the way the staff seem to know what you need before you speak, it all comes together quietly, and beautifully.

This week, Team Nxai had the opportunity to attend a two-day workshop hosted by University Innovation Pod Botswana, BCS Digital Skills Academy from Estonia, and LEA .
The workshop was all about helping small businesses like ours better understand the digital world and how we can use online tools to grow and work smarter.
We explored everything from how to use social media more strategically, to aligning our digital efforts with our goals, protecting our data, and being more creative with our marketing and branding.
What stood out most was realizing how we can serve our clients better by being intentional about how we show up digitally.
We left with practical tools, fresh ideas, and so much more confidence in where we’re going.
